Qatar Participates in ESCWA 28th Ministerial Meeting

Tunis, September 17 (QNA) - Tunis, September 17 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Development Planning and Statistics Dr. Saleh Mohamed Al-Nabit, , Leads Qatars Delegation to the 28th Ministerial Meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), held in Tunisian capital on 17 18 September, under the banner of "Social Justice in the Policies of Arab States". The 28th Session of ESCWA coincides with the commemoration of the Commission's 40th anniversary. To mark this occasion, ESCWA will show a documentary to shed light on its vision for the future development in the Arab region. The 28th Session will comprise four roundtable discussions, led by prominent regional and international intellectuals, to tackle the following issues: the new development approach beyond 2015; economic policies supportive of social justice; intergenerational justice and access to natural resources; and social justice-monitoring and measurement. The ministerial meeting will also discuss the multiple and varied activities carried out by ESCWA since its 27th session; ESCWA programme of work for the 2014-2015 biennium; and the draft strategic framework for the 2016-2017 biennium. Moreover, the session will address critical issues in the Arab countries, the most important of which are the economic and social developments in the Arab region 2013-2014; and the results of the Arab High Level Forum on Sustainable Development; the support of the Palestinian people; a proposal for the creation of a governmental ICT committee for development; and a proposal for the establishment of Arab center for trade and economic integration. The session will be attended by ministerial representatives of the 17 member states of ESCWA, observers from the UN agencies and UN member states not members of ESCWA, funders, experts, academics, as well as accredited diplomats and high-level Tunisian personalities. The session will conclude with the adoption of the "Ministerial Declaration on Social Justice in the Policies of Arab States" by the ministerial representatives of ESCWA member countries. (QNA)
