Qatar Participates in Session of Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

Vienna, May 24 (QNA) - Qatar is taking part in the 25th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), currently underway in Vienna, with a delegation led by Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal, advisor of HE the minister of interior. Dr. Al Mal gave a speech on behalf of Qatar during the high level part of the session, in which he congratulated the session's president and members of the U.N. office for electing the session's president, announcing the Qatari delegation's support for the declaration of the Asian group and the Group of 77 and China. He stressed Qatar's support and cooperation in order for the session to achieve the desired success. He spoke about the follow up on the implementation of the outcomes of the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Doha 2015) and preparations for the 14th edition. He said the success of Doha 2015 makes the Doha declaration a roadmap for the next five years and beyond that leads the efforts of the international family in tackling transnational organized crime, building effective, fair, humanitarian and accountable criminal justice system, strengthening the rule of law, and achieving sustainable development. Dr. Al Mal said Qatar took the initiative to implement the recommendations of the Doha declaration at the international level and signed in November a financing agreement for that purpose with the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) that extends from 2016 to 2020. He added that terrorism is a threat to societies, values and the future generations, noting that it is condemned in all forms and manifestations and should not be associate with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group. Dr. Al Mal said the Doha declaration gave the appropriate solution for terrorism through enhancing cooperation at the international and regional levels, supporting capacity-building programs and handling circumstances that lead to the spread of terrorism.
