Qatar Participates in Two Meetings for GCC Standardization Organization

Doha, November 07 (QNA) - Qatar's Ministry of Environment participated in the 20th Meeting of the Board of Directors of the GCC Standardization Organization and the second meeting of the Board of Directors of the GCC Accreditation Center, which were held at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh. Qatar's delegation to the meetings was headed by HE Minister of Environment Ahmed bin Amer Al Hemaidi, and included Assistant Undersecretary for Laboratories and Standardization Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari. The GCC Ministers, members of the Board of Directors of the GCC Standardization Organization, approved 20 technical regulations, bringing the number of the approved Gulf technical regulations and standards to 13277. Of them 11792 are GCC standards and 1485 are Gulf technical regulations. An Environment Ministry's press release said that the general secretariat of the Gulf Standardization Organization briefed during the meeting on its actions to introduce Gulf conformity certificates on motorcycles and tires, which will come into effect as of 1 January 2015, in order to give an opportunity for manufacturing companies to provide certificates of conformity and complete the ratification procedures. The Board of Directors also approved the Gulf technical regulations on low voltage electrical equipment and devices, which include a set of household appliances and electrical equipment. The Board launched the e-library which was funded by Islamic Development Bank as well. They approved the implementation of the GCC Standardization Organization's organizational structure project, and adopted the Organization's budget for fiscal year 2015. The second meeting of the Board of Directors of the GCC Accreditation Center discussed issues on its agenda. (QNA)
