Qatar Petroleum Celebrates National Sports Day

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - Qatar Petroleum (QP) celebrated the National Sports Day by holding a series of activities for QP employees and their families to highlight the prime importance of an active and healthy lifestyle. Around 6,000 staff members and their families took part in the annual event, which was led by QP President and CEO Saad Sherida Al Kaabi with the participation of the company's vice presidents and senior officials. HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada visited the venue of QP's sports activities at Aspire Park, where he toured the area and expressed his appreciation on the wide range of QP activities to mark the National Sport Day 2016. In his comments on the occasion, Al Kaabi said QP's participation in the National Sport Day is an "important testament to our commitment to the development sports, and our efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle." "It is heartwarming to see the level of engagement and harmony by all QP staff members and their families not just in celebrating this day, but also in embodying the strong and united QP family," he added. Activities included a mini-football tournament, table tennis, tug-of-war, a volleyball tournament, an obstacle course, human foosball and a walking marathon. Children of all ages also had lots of fun as they played various games, including penalty shootouts, free throw shooting, a spoon race and sack race, sumo wrestling, as well as an inflatable climbing wall. There were also on-stage activities, such as an aerobics class as well as a jump rope demonstration and workshop. In addition to the celebration in Doha, hundreds of employees attended sports activities and competitions held in Dukhan, Halul Island, and in offshore production stations. Winners of the sports tournaments and competitions were awarded with trophies and medals, eagerly looking forward to another National Sport Day celebration next year. QP is a national oil corporation responsible for the sustainable development of Qatar's oil and gas resources. Since it was established in 1974, QP has been spearheading the continued growth of Qatar's oil and gas industry with a range of activities covering the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors, and operations expanding to various parts around the world.
