Qatar Red Crescent Launches Anti-Blindness Campaign

Doha, July 29 (QNA) - Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has started the implementation of the school health department's campaign for the treatment of eye diseases among school students in Bangladesh capital city of Dhaka for a total budget of USD 174,428 (QAR 634,831) in finance and implementation partnership with the Islamic Da'wa Organization and World Vision in the context of a tripartite agreement they signed last November. In a statement QRC said during the first stage, which took eight months, a medical working team visited 60 schools in the city of Dhaka in which 44,895 students are enrolled, explaining that 18,404 students (boys and girls) underwent medical check-up which suggested that 2,072 cases require treatment. The statement 1,295 cases were referred to hospital for further investigation, treatment and surgeries, adding that education books were distributed to 114 teachers. The tripartite agreement, which will go into force for one year, aims to conduct tests and provide anti-blindness services to 200,000 students in Dhaka, in addition to spreading awareness about eye diseases and training teachers on how to discover disorders.(QNA)
