The purpose of the program is to train and qualify Palestinian physicians for the Arab Board licensing in 10 specialties (general internal medicine, urinary tract surgery, radiology, anesthesia & recovery, pediatrics, ENT, lab & microanatomy, psychiatry, neurosurgery, and ocular surgery. During the academic year 2016-2017, nine scholarships will be given for a 4-6 year study program to receive the Arab Board licensing, and a 2-3 year study program for subspecialties. Specific specialties will be chosen from Gaza and others from the West Bank. The selected scholars will be committed to returning to work at Palestinian health facilities for at least double the period of scholarship. Selection will be on a competitive basis, in accordance with the standards approved by HMC. All applications are to be sent via registered mail, addressed to QRCS's headquarters in Doha, no later than 25 August 2016 (announcement link: http://www.qrcs.org.qa/Arabic/Projects/Qatar/Pages/palastinedoctorsproject.aspx). QRCS Executive Manager, Fahad M. Al-Naimi, said this project is part of QRCS's efforts to support the Palestinian medical sector, particularly in Gaza. "This is the sixth medical training batch under HMC. Since 2003, HMC and we have graduated and qualified many Palestinian physicians to be hired by Palestinian hospitals, in parallel with our contributions in medical equipment and supplies," he added. PRCS President Dr. Younis Al-Khatib attached great importance to this Emir of Qatar's scholarship program in securing qualified medical personnel to serve the Palestinian people. He described the relations between QRCS and PRCS as historic, by virtue of focusing on enhancing medical and educational sectors to alleviate the everyday suffering of Palestinians under siege and war.
