Qatar Reiterates Condemnation of Israel's Recent Escalation in Jerusalem

New York, November 26 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has reiterated its condemnation over the recent Israeli escalation in Jerusalem, stressing that storming of the Temple Mount and preventing worshipers from entering it to pray is a violation of religious freedom, the international law and the agreement on the administration of holy places and is a serious threat undermining the chances of achieving the desired peace in the Middle East. The State of Qatar also warned of the dire consequences of this policy which will be exploited by several parties to raise more extremism and violence in the Middle East. This came in a statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the UN General Assembly on the item (35) entitled "the situation in the Middle East" and item (36) entitled "Question of Palestine". The statement pointed out that Qatar reiterated its firm position about the necessity of respecting the provisions of the international law and the international humanitarian law through Israel's implementation of its obligations in this regard, emphasising that the achievement of a comprehensive peace in accordance with the resolutions of the international legitimacy will not be reached through the use of excessive force and the continuing violations against unarmed civilians, but this policy will increase the intensity of the conflict and will push all parties to more extremism. The statement added that because of Qatar's awareness to the importance of reaching a final and comprehensive solution to this conflict, it found a positive and essential step in the Palestinian national reconciliation agreement, reached last April, towards a lasting peace between the two sides. The State of Qatar also renewed its support to the international community in its strong endorsement for the principle of the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, stressing that this requires the end of the Israeli occupation of all Arab occupied territories, including the occupied Syrian Golan and Lebanese territories HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani explained in the statement of the State of Qatar to the United Nations General Assembly that this year has witnessed serious and painful events. HE pointed to Qatar's participation in the regional and international efforts to speed up the cease-fire, avoid more human and material losses and reach a final agreement that will put an end to the suffering of the civilians who are living under fear and threat by the repeated military attacks and under various pretexts. She stressed that the serious recent events that took place and still underway, and the resulting violations of human rights and international law because of the suffering of the Palestinian people, constitute an additional incentive for the international community to resume peace negotiations in the Middle East in order to reach a just, lasting and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue. The State of Qatar in its statement held the United Nations and the Security Council in particular the responsibility in this regard through the urgent and serious move to achieve this goal and deal positively on this basis. Qatar's statement concluded by emphasising that the international recognition of Palestine as an observer state in the United Nations before two years represents a clear message from the international community that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state has become unavoidable to achieve peace in the Middle East, explaining that supporting the building of the institutions of the Palestinian state, reconstructing Gaza, ending its siege and providing opportunities for a decent life for all its residents will contribute to achieve this goal.
