Qatar Strongly Condemns Israeli Attacks and Land Confiscation in the West Bank

Geneva , September 08 (QNA) - Qatar strongly condemned the recent Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, and the continuation of Israeli's policies of settlement through confiscation of more land in the West Bank, said the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Faisal bin Abdullah Al Henzab. This came in Qatar's speech delivered by Al-Henzab at the opening of the 27th session of the UN Human Rights Council, from September 8 through 26, 2014, as part of Agenda item 2 in the public debate on the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights . The State of Qatar called anew for doubling efforts to end the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip and the opening of all border crossings for the reconstruction of Gaza Strip in order to maintain the fundamental human rights of the Palestinian people and their human dignity, stressing the need that Israel should not escape accountability for its war crimes against the Palestinian people. Qatar welcomed the appointment of Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad al-Hussein, as High Commissioner of the Human Rights, expressing confidence in his ability and wisdom to lead successfully the Human Rights Office, reaffirming its commitment to cooperate with him and his office to carry out his duties and responsibilities to the fullest. Qatar also praised efforts exerted by Ms. Navi Pillay, former United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights during her mandate. Al Henzab. called on the international community to unite to solve the Syrian crisis and to find appropriate ways to hold accountable the perpetrators of human rights abuses and crimes committed on daily bases against the Syrian people for more than three years and to move ahead for building the new Syria, that meets the legitimate aspirations of its people. Qatar's delegation shared the High Commissioner his view that ending conflicts and halting the accompanying human rights abuses represent a priority, adding that no talk about the promotion and protection of human rights, stability and development can be made without the elimination of hotbeds of conflicts and their causes. He stressed the need to focus on linking the goals of sustainable development to the perspective of human rights which is distancing from all that cause the resort to violence and conflicts. Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN Office added that Qatar has made serious steps to reform the work environment across a range of measures to achieve the full protection of migrant workers, improve their occupational and living conditions according to the best relevant international standards . He pointed out that Qatar seeks to promote and protect human rights from the perspective of the achievement of stability and sustainable development for all individuals and communities, so its efforts will always continue to focus on cooperation with the international community to gain access to a world of peace, prosperity and respect the rule of law and human rights.(QNA)
