Qatar, UN Sign Agreement for Implementation of Doha Declaration Program

Vienna, November 28 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the United Nations in Vienna have signed an agreement ( Program of implementation of the Doha Agreement), under which the State of Qatar is to fund projects and initiatives recommended by the "Doha Declaration" of the Thirteenth Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice till the 14th Congress for crime prevention to be held in Japan in 2020.     The agreement was signed for the State of Qatar by HE Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al Mall, Advisor to the Minister of the Interior who is also Chairman of the implementation of the Doha Declaration , while it was signed for the United Nations by Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yury Fedotov .   The signing ceremony was attended by HE Ali bin Khalfan Al Mansouri, Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna and Qatar's Ambassador to Austria.   The Program covers four main themes including setting up of a well-established and effective criminal justice systems that enjoy public's trust, the adoption of an integrated humane, effective and fair approach for Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice to achieve the goals of sustainable development .. It also includes education for justice with a focus on raising awareness among young people, as well as strengthen international cooperation in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice.    More than 80 countries, mostly from developing countries, least developed countries will benefit from these programs and projects in a variety of areas, including training of judges, and law enforcement authorities to programs to prevent and combat corruption and other crimes, such as drugs and terrorism, and programs for the prevention of crime and in particular young people and communities immunization against crime and the provision of opportunities for education and vocational training for young people and the establishment of sports activities under the justice and the rule of law logo, also includes projects for the training of law enforcement and protection of human rights authorities, and others to improve the conditions of prisoners, and teacher training programs and the protection of children from violence, and the development of teaching aids designed to entrench the principles of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and strengthen the capacity of countries in the field of international cooperation and the establishment of a global platform for practical cooperation to prevent and combat crime, and launch campaigns to raise awareness about the crime of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants as well as other projects and initiatives.   The signing of this agreement is a confirmation of the commitment of the State of Qatar that the Doha Declaration would be a new starting point in the joint international community's efforts to prevent and curb transnational organized crime and other related crimes, and to build an effective and fair criminal justice systems, and link these objectives to achieve sustainable development in accordance with the United Nations sustainable development agenda post 2015.(QNA)
