Qatar, US Discuss Legal Cooperation

Washington, September 23 (QNA) - A delegation from Qatar's Ministry of Justice, led by Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Ibrahim bin Musa Al Hitmi met here today during their current visit to Washington with Aaron Schuham, Chief of the Policy and Strategy Section at the US Department of Justice (DOJ) in addition to a number of senior officials and representatives of other government agencies . During the meeting they discussed cooperation in legal, legislative and judicial aspects and ways of strengthening measures to ensure respect for different religions and beliefs, especially in light of the Arab draft law preventing the defamation of religions, which was presented by Qatar's Ministry of Justice and approved by the 29th session of the Arab Justice Ministers Council, held in Sana'a. During the visit, the delegation reviewed with the American concerned authorities the UN Human Rights Council resolution on combating intolerance, negative stereotyping, stigmatization, discrimination, incitement to violence and violence against persons on the basis of their religion or faith. The delegation was also briefed on the functions and activities of the US Department of Homeland Security Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties . At the conclusion of the visit, the two sides expressed their satisfaction over the level of existing cooperation between the two friendly countries. They also stressed their keenness to strengthen and develop cooperation, including the exchange of experiences and taking advantage of advanced technical capabilities of both countries.(QNA)
