Qatar Wins Human Rights Council Membership

New York, October 21 (QNA) - The State of Qatar on Tuesday won the membership of the Human Rights Council for a three-year period from 2015-2017. The State of Qatar won the vote in the UN General Assembly in New York backed by 142 countries as part of the Group of Asian States. From the Asian Group also India, Indonesia and Bangladesh won the membership of the Human Rights Council. This is the third time that the State of Qatar has been elected for membership of the Human Rights Council which is the highest organ of the United Nations on human rights and ways of strengthening them worldwide. The State of Qatar won the membership of the High Council, with the support of such a large number of member -States of the United Nations to reflect the international status it enjoys and the role it plays in the defence of human rights in all regions of the world.(QNA)
