Qatari National Committee for Education, Culture and Science Launches Campaign for Right to Education

Doha, October 14 (QNA) - Qatari National Committee for Education, Culture and Science has launched the National Campaign for the Right to Education in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Doha, the National Human Rights Committee and Education Above All Foundation. Dr. Hamda Al-Sulaiti, Secretary General of the Qatari National Committee for Education, Culture and Science underlined that the human development and the protection and promotion of human rights are among the priorities of the State of Qatar, and it continues its efforts at the legislative and institutional levels in implementation of its National Vision 2030 and the Global Sustainable Development Plan 2030, noting that education is the most important human right for its main role in preparing skilled workforce capable of leading the country's overall development drive. She also stressed that the State of Qatar, under the leadership and guidance of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, pays great attention to education at all levels and recognizes its humanitarian duty and its international and humanitarian obligations towards the international community and the world's peoples and children in supporting Education, and ensure that it is well-served Ensuring and its universal coverage. The State of Qatar believes that education plays a positive role in achieving rapprochement, communication and interaction among civilizations and cultures, and promotes common human values, human rights and the principles of justice, and peace. It also pledged a generous initiative by HH the Amir to provide a good education for million girls by 2021, while the Education Above All Foundation has over 10 million children not enrolled in education around the world, Dr. Al-Sulaiti added. She said that the global campaign for the right to education, launched today comes within the framework of the efforts of the State of Qatar to support the right to education at the national and global levels. For her part, the representative of the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha, reviewed the objectives of the World Campaign for the Right to Education, adopted by UNESCO, stressing that education is not a privilege but a human right. Hamad al-Hassan of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) also noted the campaign launched by the Committee last March in the State of Qatar to introduce the importance of the right to education and affirmed that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides for the right to education for everyone. He highlighted the NHRC's role in terms of the right to education and building an effective community partnership with governmental and community bodies to spread and defend the culture of human rights and to disseminate the concepts of these rights to all members of the society. Talal Al-Hathal, Director of the Education Above All Foundation, reviewed the Foundation's efforts and international initiatives to protect and promote access to and ensure the right to education, including the Al Fakhoora Program, Educate A Child, and Reach Out to Asia initiatives. Aisha al-Towar al-Kuwari, head of the Right to Education Campaign Committee, said that education is the most important human right guaranteed by all divine laws, religions, legislation and international and national laws. The importance of education as a human right lies in its central role in preparing skilled workforce capable of leading the comprehensive development drive in any country in the world and thereby achieving the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, she noted.(QNA)
