Qatari Newspapers Highlight Significance of Singapore Historic Summit

Doha, June 13 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers, Al-Sharq and Al-Raya, highlighted in their editorials Wednesday the significance of the historic summit held between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leaders Kim Jong-un in Singapore yesterday, which sends a message of peace and revives hopes of reaching a comprehensive solution to one of the most serious international crises.
The papers referred to Qatar's welcome of the summit which confirms its keenness on establishing world peace and resolving political conflicts through dialogue.
For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper said that the historic summit in Singapore paves the way for reaching a binding agreement realizes denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, ending decades of conflict.
The historic agreement between Washington and Pyongyang will be of great significance to the Middle East region, which many fear could turn into a nuclear race, Al-Sharq said.
The paper highlighted Qatar's welcome to the meeting and hopes that it would be followed by practical steps to achieve sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Meanwhile, Al-Raya newspaper said that Qatar's welcome to the meeting between United States President Donald Trump and North Korean President Kim Jong-un in Singapore yesterday affirms its keenness on establishing peace in the world and solving political crises through dialogue.
The paper said that the meeting represented a historical precedent promising the further easing of tensions on the Korean Peninsula and reaching a binding agreement under which the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula would be made.
Al-Raya underlined that Qatar supports achieving a comprehensive and satisfactory solution for all parties and through dialogue and peaceful means will end decades of the conflict that the citizens of the two Koreas paid its price, and which led to the dispersion of families since the 1950s, and will spread security and tranquility among North Korea's neighbors.
It referred that the comprehensive solution will be a quantum leap and a new achievement in efforts to curb the spread of nuclear weapons around the world, and perhaps that step is significant for the Middle East, which Qatar fears to become a nuclear racing arena, unless the situation of escalation is contained by activating peaceful means to resolve disputes and differences and to reduce the nuclear ambitions of all parties.
Concluding, Al-Raya underlined that the State of Qatar supports all efforts to resolve crises that limit the achievement of development and affect the citizens who are always plagued by wars, disputes and political crises. Doha always welcomes all political solutions and efforts to bring peace to the world. (QNA)
