Qatari Newspapers Welcome the International Recognition of Siege Countries' Violations of Human Rights

Doha, April 22 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers on Sunday highlighted the official letters sent by special rapporteurs at the UN Human Rights Council to the governments of three siege countries - Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain - on the serious human rights violations they have committed since the outbreak of the Gulf crisis. In their editorials today, the Qatari dailies said that the letters affirmed that the violations of the siege countries will be accountable, and that that international community is fully aware of the siege countries' violations against the State of Qatar. For its part, Al-Watan newspaper underlined that the State of Qatar will not waive its rights and will seek to preserve the rights of its citizens by all legal ways. The paper referred to the strong warnings issued by the UN special rapporteurs in the content of the six messages published by the United Nations on its website, in which they affirmed that any person responsible for the violations monitored would be held accountable as a result of the siege. The content of the letters mirrored the official report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which condemned the violations of the siege countries and accused them of taking unilateral and arbitrary measures against the citizens and residents of the State of Qatar, and even against the citizens and residents of the siege countries themselves, Al-Watan noted. Concluding, Al-Watan highlighted the success of the efforts undertaken by Qatar's National Human Rights Committee since the first day of the siege, which affirmed Qatar's adherence to its rights and the rights of its citizens, as a country that respects the international law and all legal means of obtaining the legitimate rights. Meanwhile, Al-Rayan newspaper believed that the official letters of the special rapporteurs of the UN Human Rights Council regarding the violations of the siege countries affirmed the human rights violation caused by the unjust siege on Qatar. The announcement of the United Nations that six special rapporteurs of its Human Rights Council had sent official letters to three countries of the blockade Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain monitoring all violations committed by each country, based on reports received by the international organization from some relevant organizations confirmed the international recognition of the human rights violations committed by those countries against the State of Qatar, Al-Raya said. The Qatari daily referred to the UN statement which urged the siege countries to take all measures to stop the humanitarian violations they caused and to ensure prevention of their recurrence, and to take all necessary steps to respect the rights of people affected by the current Gulf crisis. Al-Raya noted that the letters were separate and included a detailed and accurate account in each country's letter, supported by the figures and statistics received by the United Nations on all violations of the rights of citizens and residents of the State of Qatar as well as the nationals of the countries concerned. The UN letters are yet a new proof of the violations committed by the siege countries, and affirmed the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which condemned the violations of the siege countries and accused them of taking unilateral and arbitrary measures against the citizens and residents of the State of Qatar, and even against the citizens and residents of the siege countries themselves. In the meantime, Qatari newspaper, Al-Sharq, said that the official letters sent by special rapporteurs at the UN Human Rights Council to the governments of the siege countries regarding violations of human rights underlined the fact that their acts will be accountable by the international community and its institutions. The newspaper noted that this is not the first time that international bodies and human rights organizations send official letters or condemnations of the practices of these countries and their violations of the rights of citizens and residents of Qatar, referring to the official report of the former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which condemned the violations of the siege countries against the most basic human rights, in particular the right of family reunification, education, employment, freedom of expression, health and the right to property. Al-Sharq underlined that the UN letters affirmed the successes that Qatar has been achieving while facing the aggression of the siege countries at all legal, diplomatic and political levels. (QNA)
