Qatar's Minister of Administrative Development: Workers' Cup Promotes Rights of Expatriate Workers

Doha, March 24 (QNA) - The Workers' Cup is a source of pride for the State of Qatar as it represents a major development in Qatar's ongoing efforts to protect and promote the rights of expatriate workers, HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Dr Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi said. The great success of the six-year history of Workers' Cup underscores Qatar's commitment to care for workers, guarantee their rights, provide them with various means of recreation, and enable them to practice their hobbies and improve their lifestyle by playing football, His Excellency added in a press statement today. He pointed to the great importance given by Qatar to workers by organizing a competition for them, especially in light of the large public presence and the high technical level shown in the final match today by the two teams, congratulating the winning team and wishing the other success in the upcoming editions. HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs said that the tournament witnessed great cooperation from several companies as they allowed workers to participate in this event, calling on the remaining companies to participate and contribute to the success of this event in the coming years. While saying that workers are key partners in the grown experienced by the country, he added that the State of Qatar, in line with its commitments, continues its efforts at the legislative and institutional levels to ensure the rights and safety of expatriate workers in view of the State's appreciation of expatriate workers as productive and active contributors to its development. He pointed out that all companies take into account the rights of labor in accordance with the legislations set by the State of Qatar to protect the rights of workers at the level of occupational safety and health and adequate housing, pointing out that there is a team of inspectors monitoring work sites and verifying companies' commitment to these standards and legislations. HE the Minister said that the sixth edition of Workers' Cup is a reply to the incorrect allegations about the suffering of the workers in the country, stressing that Qatar has taken many policies and legislative and procedural amendments to achieve the goal of decent work for citizens and expatriate workers alike, and has become a model in this field.
