QF Annual Research Conference14 To Address Local Research Excellence

Doha, September 20 (QNA) - Qatar Foundations Annual Research Conference (ARC), held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, announced it is advancing on its journey towards research excellence at ARC14, on November 18th and 19th. Annual Research Conference (ARC), Qatar Foundation Research and Developments flagship conference, builds on nationwide efforts to advance Qatar's ambitious research agenda. It provides a unique platform to activate multidisciplinary knowledge sharing and collaboration needed to tackle the most pressing national challenges in research, as well as bolster Qatars research and development sector. Following the success of last years conference, ARC14 will offer attendees from around the world thought-provoking panel discussions, technical presentations, and high-powered debates where leading experts will share constructive experiences and innovative approaches on the theme, Towards World-Class Research and Innovation. The November conference aims to address Qatars research grand challenges and critical issues such as the countrys cyber and water security, solar and renewable energy solutions, health management systems, as well as the social challenges and opportunities in Qatar and the region. Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), one of the main pillars of Qatar Foundation, is leading Qatars science and research efforts in these fields. Last years event featured participation of leading scientific minds, including Nobel Laureates Prof. Shinya Yamanaka of the Centre for iPS Cell Research and Application at Kyoto University, Japan; Prof. Sir Martin John Evans of Cardiff University, UK; Prof. Asit Biswas, of the Third World Centre for Water Management in Mexico; and Prof. Anthony Cheetham of the University of Cambridge, UK. Announcing ARC14, Dr Nabeel Al Salem, Executive Director of Outreach and Communications at Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), said: "Since its inception in 2010, ARC has grown as a platform for discussing Qatars ambitious research agenda to propel the country towards a diversified economy and the realization of Qatar National Vision 2030. "ARC14 offers a unique opportunity for local, regional and international experts to come together to recognize local research excellence, as well as activate multidisciplinary knowledge sharing and collaboration to tackle pressing national and international challenges in research." Hosted at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), this years conference follows on the success of ARC13, which was attended by more than 2,000 delegates and where many of Qatars research grand challenges were unveiled. A record number of more than 1,000 scientific abstracts were received, of which close to 450 high-quality abstracts were accepted for poster presentations. Additionally, the authors of about 50 abstracts had the opportunity to deliver oral presentations on their research and contend for the best research presentation award. ARC14 will feature various sessions related to the four thematic pillars defined in Qatars National Research Strategy (QNRS) - Energy and Environment, Computing and Information Technology, Health, and Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.
