QF Invites Community to Solidarity Walk for Chapel Hill Shooting Victims

Doha, February 14 (QNA) - Qatar Foundation has called on the entire community to join a solidarity walk on Sunday at Education City for the victims of the terrorist act committed against three American Muslim students in Chapel Hill in the U.S. state of North Carolina. "The sad deaths of Deah Shaddy Barakat, his wife, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, have shocked people around the entire world. The community at Qatar Foundation has been particularly touched by the tragic events as these students' academic pursuits and their charitable endeavors are reflected in QF's mission to unlock human potential and promote education and community development in Qatar and beyond," QF said Friday in a press release. The walk, a collective effort by QF and the community of students and faculty of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) as well as QF's partner universities, aims to "condemn this act of terrorism and show their solidarity and support to the families of the victims," the statement added. The walk will start from the entrance of HBKU Student Centre at Education City on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. and will proceed in silence to the Education City Ceremonial Court, where a minute of silence will be observed and students will say some remarks. In memory of the victims, QF said in the statement, the community is encouraged to donate to Syrian Dental Relief, the charity fund started by Chapel Hill victim Barakat, to aid Syrian refugees in Turkey.
