QFFD Sends Urgent Relief Aid for Those Affected by Floods in Sudan

Doha, September 09 (QNA) - In response to the recent flood disaster in the Republic of the Sudan, the State of Qatar has sent urgent relief aid through Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in partnership with strategic partners, such as Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent Society, and in cooperation with the Standing Committee for Rescue and Relief Works and Humanitarian Aids for Afflicted Areas in Brotherly and Friendly Countries. QFFD said in a statement that this response comes as a continuation of the relief and development support provided by the State of Qatar in Sudan, in order to reduce the catastrophic effects on the people of Sudan, which affected more than half a million people and left a number of dead and wounded. The statement indicated that these floods were due to a rise in the level of the Nile water following heavy rains, and as a result the country was declared a disaster area due to the severe damage caused by the flood. The relief aid provided by the State of Qatar includes food baskets, tents, and various relief aids targeting various affected areas of Sudan, from which 8,000 people have benefited so far. The State of Qatar was one of the first countries to initiate aid, as on Sept.7, Qatar provided aid to 139 families in Khartoum and Omdurman. The aid provided included a package of food and non-food items. In addition, food and non-food items are currently being distributed to a thousand families to support the displaced and those affected by the floods, to reach all target groups of beneficiaries. In the same context, two batches of humanitarian aid shipments have arrived, sent by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent Society, containing 12.5 tons of medical materials and devices that will enable hospitals and quarantine centers to treat those infected with the Coronavirus. QRCS also delivered medical aids to support Ibrahim Malik Teaching Hospital in cooperation with the Sudanese Red Crescent in Khartoum. The State of Qatar, through the Standing Committee for Rescue and Relief Works and Humanitarian Aids for Afflicted Areas in Brotherly and Friendly Countries, will send urgent relief aid via an air bridge to the affected areas in Sudan, loaded with about 42.5 tons of food and non-food items, tents and medicines. The State of Qatar, represented by QFFD and the strategic partners of Qatari charitable institutions, continues to support brotherly Sudan through urgent relief aid and development projects, within the framework of the essential and important role that the State of Qatar plays to help the brothers in Sudan to successfully overcome this humanitarian crisis and alleviate the severity of the disaster. QFFD provided, last September, urgent relief assistance to the flood victims in Sudan, where it sent about 124 tons of relief materials and medicine to the affected areas in Sudan. (QNA)
