QRC Intensifies Training and Informative Services

Doha, October 13 (QNA) - Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has recently intensified the training and informative services it provides for the Qatari society, in order to further enhance community health awareness, develop a base of volunteers and non-volunteers from all categories and age groups, and qualify them through different programmes held in cooperation with many government and nongovernment organizations and instructed by internationally certified specialists and trainers. Through these activities, QRC seeks to create a culture of initiative spirit and volunteerism, promote safety and security standards, prepare capable medical staff to help the most vulnerable social groups, whether in emergency management, life support, standard of living improvement, mainstreaming of healthy attitudes, or disease prevention. Over the past few weeks, QRC medical affairs department offered six first aid training courses for 80 trainees of various nationalities from a number of corporations and institutions, including United Development Co. (UDC), Qatar Project Management (QPM), W Doha Hotel & Residences, Grand Hyatt Hotel - Doha, and Qatar Foundation. In the end of each course, the trainees receive certificates of participation. Under the QRC School Program, seven theoretical lectures on first aid and its applications were delivered at five schools: Othman Ibn Affan Independent School, Rofaida Independent Preparatory School for Girls, Om Ayman Secondary School for Girls, Al-Wakra Secondary School for Girls, and Fatima bin Al-Moghira Primary School for Girls. The lectures were attended by 300 students, teachers, administrative staff, and parents. Also, QRC organized an informative workshop for the Hajj Medical Committee at Al-Dhaayen Independent Primary School for Girls, which explained the Hajj Medical Guide, the content of the hygiene kits, and how to use them. The audience consisted of 120 schoolgirls, parents, and teachers. Trainees received diverse experience and knowledge, including background information about QRC and basic training in first aid, surface water rescue, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); how to deal with cases of suffocation, bleeding, injury, fracture, burn, epilepsy, poisoning, and heat exhaustion?; and techniques of moving injured people. QRC's healthcare activities incorporate the latest training and scientific programmes accredited by major international institutions, such as the European Society of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC). It also recruits an academically qualified coaching cadre that possesses the highest level of skills and proficiency in Qatar. QRC develops many programs to raise health awareness, establish preventive healthy habits among individuals, and promote personal hygiene. In 2013-2014, QRC conducted 73 lectures for 6,661 people and participated in 12 health events and exhibits in Qatar, including the World Cancer Day and National Sports Day celebrations, by providing educational activities for 7,720 people. Moreover, QRC launches year-round health campaigns to provide health services and education for different segments of society. Examples are Weqaya, Your Donation Is Their Lifeline, Thank You, and Ramadan Tent, as well as distributions of health printouts, bottled water, juices, and personal hygiene kits to the public. (QNA)
