QRC Provides Emergency Aid to Earthquake-hit Indonesian Island of Lombok

Doha, Aug. 22 (QNA) - The Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has announced that it will provide emergency assistance to those affected by the recent earthquake in the Indonesian island of Lombok at a cost of $ 200,000. The QRC said that the assistance is to provide non-food relief items, which include a shelter package, such as plastic sheets, blankets, mosquito nets, and water-saving containers. The assistance also includes the provision of health services of first aid, personal hygiene and awareness packages for the benefit of 700 affected families . On 5 August, the Qatar Red Crescent launched the Emergency Information Management Center to follow up on the latest developments of the earthquake and is in constant contact with the partners of the International Movement and the National Assembly in Indonesia to follow up the situation there. The Lombok Island has been hit by more than 30 earthquakes since late July, in addition to hundreds of aftershocks that left 477 dead, more than 7,000 wounded and some 415,000 displaced people. The earthquakes also destroyed more than 32,000 buildings, as well as severe damage to roads and bridges, power cuts and damage to communications networks. (QNA)
