QRCS Marks National Sports Day with Popular Events

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has shared all society individuals and institutions the celebrations of the National Sports Day, by setting up a special corner at Katara Cultural Village to hold diverse sports, recreational, and informative activities as well as offer medical services for free for the visitors of different ages and walks of life. With support from Lulu Hyper Market and Olympic Sports, all events commenced at 6:30 a.m. in a sunny and funny atmosphere, which encouraged all visitors to engage in sports matches and activities designed for all family members, with active participation from more than 250 QRCS officials, staff, and volunteers, notably the Secretary-General, Saleh bin Ali Al-Mohannadi, who said he came to encourage the youth to exercise and to promote the values of health and well-being embodied by the National Sports Day, QRCS press release said. QRCS, Al-Mohannadi maintained, is one of the Qatari institutions that work to serve the society and meet its needs across the board, as an auxiliary to the State of Qatar in its humanitarian and social efforts locally and abroad. The Secretary-General commended the strong partnership between QRCS and Katara, as evident in many successful joint events and projects, the latest of which is Katara's campaign to provide winterization aid for the displaced Syrian families on the Syrian-Jordanian borders. Competently run by the volunteers, QRCS's corner saw many activities, including information for the visitors about QRCS's mission and the value of voluntary and charitable work; distribution of water and juice bottles and gifts; and sports activities for the public and particularly children such as exercising under the supervision of a professional coach, as well as football matches between QRCS and other teams. As usual in all events inside Qatar, QRCS's medical services actively participated in the celebrations, in line with the government's public health policies and QRCS's vision of ensuring safety and well-being for everyone. QRCS medical officers received the visitors, distributed health awareness publications, trained them about first aid and CPR, performed blood sugar/pressure tests for free, and medically covered the area with ambulance bicycles. In parallel, QRCS's branch in Al-Khor held several health and sports activities at different locations, including Tawasul Heritage Park, Al-Khor Residential Complex, and Petroleum Residential Complex, as well as participation in the marathon held by Al-Khor Sports Club, the Community Police, and Al-Khor Community Development Center. A QRCS fleet of 45 ambulances and 200 medics were dispatched around the different locations of events throughout the day to take care of the public and intervene in emergency, such as the Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, the corniche area, Aspire Zone, and the Pearl.
