And during the conference Noura Rashid Al Dosari will give a presentation about Healthcare assistance for migrant workers in Qatar, while Dr Fawzi Oussedik will participate in the opening remarks of the conference. The objectives of the conference are to enhance understanding of trends, dynamics, and contemporary humanitarian challenges associated with labor migration, and the current opportunities and initiatives related to addressing the humanitarian consequences of labor migration at the national, regional, and global levels, and to enhance understanding of the collective strengths of the RCRC Movement, and the respective mandates of its components, to assist, protect, and advocate for those affected by labor migration, both migrants and their relatives, and enhance commitments and cooperation between National Societies across borders and across regions. This conference is a follow-up from the Doha Dialogue Initiative, with events held across Qatar, Myanmar, and the Philippines, and the conference came when there is almost unprecedented global attention to the issue of migration including the needs of those affected by labor migration. There is an almost unprecedented global opportunity, with negotiations towards the first-ever Global Compact on Migration due to conclude by the end of 2018. At the same time, the RCRC Movement has taken a number of decisive, collective steps to enhance their work to protect the most vulnerable in the context of migration, including labor migration. Recent Red Cross Red Crescent initiatives include endorsement by all National Societies of the IFRC Global Migration Strategy and the Movement Call for Action on the Humanitarian Needs of Vulnerable Migrants. The issue of migrant workers is one of the most important issues on the international humanitarian scene, and it is estimated that there are 258 million migrants from one country to another around the world, including 80 million in Asia and 8 million in the Pacific. Males represent 56 percent of the total migrant labor worldwide, compared with 44 percent for females. (QNA)
