QU Holds Workshops on Excellence in Teaching for Health Professions

Doha, May 26 (QNA) - A series of interactive workshops held by Qatar University College of Medicine (QU-CMED) brought together a host of medical and healthcare professionals from leading organizations in Qatar including Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), SIDRA, University of Calgary in Qatar (UC-Q), and QU Biomedical Studies Research Center, to name a few. Over 30 current and aspiring health and medical educators from universities, hospitals and primary care institutions participated in the workshops which led to a Certificate of Competence in Teaching for Health Professions. Conducted by medical education expert Prof Hossam Hamdy from Sharjah University, the forum was part of an ongoing series of activities and collaborations by CMED in the lead up to its opening in September and the arrival of its first cadre of students who will become the first doctors to have been trained at a national medical college. Dr Hamdy is also an advisor to QU College of Medicine and a member of its international advisory board. He has previously held roles as Vice Chancellor for Medical & Health Sciences Colleges & Dean, College of Medicine at Sharjah University, and as Dean of the College of Medicine at Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain. CMED Associate Vice President for Strategy and Development Dr Christiane Mueck said: "In presenting the certificate program, the College is highlighting its commitment to excellence in teaching for the health care professions in Qatar as well as its focus on collaborative health education training. This is the core of the Colleges mission that looks to contributing to the countrys capacity to provide optimum healthcare to its society and equipping the next generation of doctors with excellent leadership and collaborative skills and dedication to lifelong learning."
