Raisi’s four tasks in New York

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has arrived in New York to attend the 77th meeting of the United National General Assembly with four tasks focused on the United States’ tyrannical sanctions against Iran. Raisi has an important mission in New York with the most important issue being economic sanctions referred to as economic war and economic terrorism. Raisi told reporters on arrival in New York that sanctions have become a means in the hands of big powers to impose their will on nations and other nations will reciprocate this. The total outcome, according to Raisi, is in contrast with peace and security and to the detriment of nations. The United States and its European allies began to target Iran with the severest sanctions ever under various pretexts after the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979. This caused all aspects of Iranians’ lives to be affected by the Western primary and secondary sanctions; thus, all parts of the country are listed under the sanctions today. Financial and banking sectors, insurance, energy and petrochemicals, shipping, shipbuilding, ports, gold, and precious metals, software, automotive industry, airplanes, and related services, import of rugs and food, metal industry, mining, construction, and texture industry and, in other words, all the sectorshave been targeted by Western sanctions. Even during the severest period of the coronavirus pandemic, the US under Donald Trump claimed to have lifted all hurdles against the purchase of humanitarian goods by Iran, but Iran was even deprived of access to COVID-19 vaccines. The irony is that the United States sanctioned three Iranian Boeing 747 airplanes which transported goods to Russia. This exactly coincided with President Raisi’s arrival in New York. Washington has claimed that these airplanes had violated US-imposed export controls which were slapped against Russia, as a part of the Biden administration’s sanctions against the country. The United States also sanctioned Iran’s Intelligence Minister Esmaeil Khatib about 10 days ago, accusing him of contributing to cyberattacks against the United States. The US Treasury Department had also sanctioned an individual and four entities related to Iran. Al-Jazeera said in a report that the US measure against Iran’s intelligence minister was symbolic in that he and the department he leads have no assets in the United States to be blocked. They also have no direct trade with American citizens. And more importantly, they were already on the US sanctions list. Several Iranian companies had also been sanctioned by Washington due to alleged contribution to the production of Iranian drones and delivering them to Russia, as the United States claims the drones had been used in the war against Ukraine. The sanctions craze has dominated the United States' foreign policy so much that different presidents of the country have failed to put it aside although they have gained no outcome. There is only a little number of countries that have remained outside the US sanctions craze domain. That’s why President Raisi told the CBS reporter that he has no plan to meet with US President Joe Biden because he sees no difference between Biden and Trump. Follow us on Twitter @IrnaEnglish
