Rally against Thai government continued

BANGKOK, October 10 (TNA) - Despite the enforcement of the Internal Security Act (ISA), effective from October 9-18, 2013, protesters loyal to the People’s Army Against the Thaksin Regime have continued demonstrating against the Thai government in front of Bangkok's Government House for the fourth consecutive day, opposing the government for submitting a Charter amendment for royal endorsement. Negotiations for the demonstrators to return and hold rally at their original site, in front of Bangkok’s Lumpini Park, by a senior police officer with a core leader of the group were unsuccessful on Thursday morning. Retired General Preecha Iamsupan, a core leader of the People’s Army Against Thaksin Regime group, again, insisted that the protesters would not leave the Government House because they have full rights to gather peacefully under the Constitution and would only talk to Deputy Prime Minister Police General Pracha Promnog, who is in charge of national security affairs. Police General Pracha has, meanwhile, called an urgent meeting with authorities concerned, including Deputy Defence Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapa, to assess the situation. The government has imposed the stiff ISA on three districts in the capital, including Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Phra Nakhon and Dusit, covering the Government House, in a bid to keep the demonstration under control, as Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is scheduled to pay a three-day official visit to Thailand from October 11-13, during which he will hold talks with his Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra at the Government House.
