Rally held at Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok

BANGKOK, November 9 (TNA) - A group of demonstrators, called themselves members of a national force to protect the Thai Lower Northeast and East, rallied in front of the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok on Saturday afternoon, amid tight security measures provided by hundreds of police. The demonstrators expressed their rejection to a, probably, ruling in favour of neighbouring Cambodia by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), set on November 13, 2013, concerning a territorial disputed case related to the ancient Preah Vihear Temple along the common border. The group of about 50 demonstrators comprises residents from seven northeastern and eastern Thai provinces bordering Cambodia, including Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Si Se Ket, Buri Ram, Sa Keao, Trat and Chantaburi. The demonstrators said that they view the World Court has no jurisdiction to decide which country owns the disputed 4.6 square-kilometre area surrounding the ancient Preah Vihear Temple, and that Thailand is not a member of the ICJ. The rally ended in less than an hour, but it had caused traffic congestion in the area. Meanwhile, local police have stepped up security measures for the Cambodian Embassy's personnel during the ICJ's ruling next Monday, advising the public to then avoid traveling to the area to ease traffic congestion.
