Ranong tests tsunami warning system

RANONG, Dec 17 (TNA) -The southern coastal province of Ranong will not hold tsunami memorial services this year but it pays attention to the testing of its disaster warning system to create confidence among local people. Several southern coastal provinces along the Andaman Sea had in the past years organised religious services in remembrance for those killed in the deadly tsunami, which hit Thailand and several countries on the Boxing Day in 2004. Ranong governor, Jatupoj Piyumputra said only small religious services may be held by relatives of those who died in the natural disaster. Officials focus on making preparations to cope with future disasters. Authorities tested the warning system and all the 13 warning towers along the Andaman coast and found that all of them were in good conditions. (TNA)
