RAPP to hold its 20th meeting in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Oct 7-8

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, June 17. /TASS/. The 20th jubilee session of the Russian American Pacific Partnership (RAPP) will be held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on October 7-8, the region’s information policy department said on Wednesday after a meeting of the local government officials with the RAPP co-chairs from Russia and the United States - Dmitry Sazhin and Derek Norberg. "The partnership has turned 20 years, the event has gone through different periods since, but continues to operate," Sazhin said. "It is necessary to place the emphasis on the development of ties between businesses and regions. It is important to maintain an atmosphere of trust. The situation will change, and the trade and economic relations will begin to improve." Despite the differences, constructive relations should be preserved. By the time the bilateral relations improve the serious advantages the two countries have developed should be kept, Norberg said. RAPP is the only regional forum for the development of economic ties between the United States and Russia. The organisation includes representatives of 13 regions of Russia and five U.S. states. The Russian American Pacific Partnership is a bilateral forum engaging the private sector and government to identify and address barriers to business and commerce between the Russian East and the United States. Committed RAPP volunteers, private-sector partners, and government representatives collaborate to expand opportunity between Russia’s East and the western United States. The U.S. and North Pacific Rim represent a leading economic region in the world, rich in resources and human capital with prospects for tremendous growth. As economic relations between the United States and Russia accelerate, more opportunities emerge for greater cooperation between the Russian East and the Western U.S. It is RAPP’s purpose to support and promote these opportunities through public and private partnerships for mutual benefit.
