Ratchaburi Holding to back up Thailand's power supply

BANGKOK, September 30 (TNA) - Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Co., Ltd. (RATCH) has reserved oil used for producing electricity in Thailand, as the Yetagun gas field located in the Andaman Sea offshore Myanmar will be shut for 15 days, starting on December 25, 2013 for its annual maintenance. RATCH Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pongdith Potchana told reporters on Monday that he is confident three subsidiaries of his company with their combined capacity of power production at 5,745 megawatts will be able to produce sufficient electricity to meet domestic demand during the temporary closure of the Yetagun gas field. According to the CEO, the three subsidiaries, including Ratchaburi Power Plant, Ratchaburi Power and Tri Energy Power Plant, can be operated by using diesel oil. The RATCH CEO acknowledged that Ratchaburi Power Plant alone has already reserved 67 million litres of bunker oil, which can generate power for 11 days, and 29 million litres of diesel, which are enough for producing electricity for three days.
