Rayong province marks Sunthorn Phu Poet Day

RAYONG, June 26 (TNA) - People in the eastern province of Rayong are celebrating " Sunthorn Phu Day" as Sunday marks the birthday anniversary of Thailand’s best-known royal poet in Rattanakosin era. Civil servants and people, led by the provincial governor Somsak Suwansucharit, are paying respect to his statue in Klaeng district for his good deeds. Rayong province this year is holding a tourism fair to commemorate Sunthorn Phu from June 24th – 27th. The fair includes light and sound show to depict Sunthorn Phu’s life, performances by famous Thai entertainers, poem writing contest and sales of One Tambon One Product goods. Sunthorn Phu was born on June 26th, 1786 during the reign of King Rama I. His father was a Rayong native of while his mother was a native of Chachoengsao province. He was renowned for his several masterpiece works including the Phra Aphai Mani saga.
