Red Bull Car Park Drift season opener to take place at RAK Ice Land Water Park

RAS AL-KHAIMAH, 31st March, 2015 (WAM) -- Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah, the tyre smoking, adrenalin-fuelled atmosphere of the Red Bull Car Park Drift returns to the UAE, as Ras al-Khaimah hosts the season opener of the regional championship for the very first time. The Ice Land Water Park is where the action takes place on Friday April 10th to find the UAE’s best drifters, with the 2 winners progressing through to the regional finals on 27th November in Kuwait. The action kicks off at 1:00 pm and entry is open to anyone who holds a valid driving licence and has a registered vehicle. Steven Rice, CEO of RAK Tourism Development Authority, said, "We are delighted to be hosting the Red Bull Car Park Drift and are looking forward to bringing such a high-octane spectacle for the residents of Ras al-Khaimah and the wider UAE. We urge everyone to make sure they don’t miss out on an event which promises plenty of thrills, spills and excitement" Drifting aficionados will also get the chance to see the the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang, in full livery, as rally champion and drifting legend Abdo Feghali demonstrates its abilities on the track. Red Bull Car Park Drift traces its roots back Lebanon in 2008 when it took place for the first time at the City Mall car park, allowing underground drifters to put their skills to test. Its stadium-style format quickly brought crowds and competitors who had a place to take drifting off the streets and to a controlled environment. Drifters begin the day with two pre-qualifying runs through a course of between 800 metres and 2,000 metres in length, marked out by cones and obstacles. The Red Bull Car Park Drift format is tough on cars due to the tight boundaries between walls and pylons and is a test of skill and bravery mixed with flair and showmanship not seen in any other form of motorsport. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/sports/1395278656769.html
