Red Cross fair in Thai South set Sept 14-23

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, THAILAND, September 4 (TNA) - Local people and international tourists are specially welcome to Nakhon Si Thammarat Province in the Thai South during September 14-23 to join a grand annual merit making festival cum Red Cross fair. Nakhon Si Thammarat Governor Chamroen Thippongthada publicly made the invitation on September 3, saying that his province's upcoming annual merit making festival will be the 94th of its kind, aimed to observe and promote local tradition and culture, as well as community wisdom. Besides, the grand annual merit making festival cum Red Cross fair is aimed to promote community harmony and gratitude to the elderly, as well as to show a mass support for a proposal to list the provincial pagoda at the Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan Temple to be a new world heritage. The governor revealed that activities at this year's annual merit making festival cum Red Cross fair include a contest of shadow shows from 14 southern Thai provinces, with the champion to honorably receive a royal trophy presented by Her Royal Highest Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, as well as a demonstration of ancient market, a sale of local food, shadow plays and performances of folk arts and community wisdom. According to the governor, the upcoming merit making festival cum Red Cross fair will be organized simultaneously at four provincial sites, including the Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan Temple, the Srinagarindra 84 Public Park, the Provincial Plaza and the Provincial Hall.
