Regional Workshop on Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction Concludes

Doha, August 30 (QNA) - The Regional Workshop on Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, organized by the Permanent Committee for Emergency in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), with the participation of a number of staff members and representatives of concerned authorities in the country has concluded. The closing of the four-day workshop was attended by Director General of Public Security Major General Saad bin Jassim Al-Khulaifi, who is also the chairman of the Permanent Committee for Emergency. The event was also attended by a number of officers from the Ministry of Interior. The workshop attended by experts from the UNISDR, touched on a number of topics on the ways to limit natural disasters and promote the national ways to coordinate in order to limit those disasters, all part of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The workshop also discussed the international frameworks and Arab strategy on the matter. The attendees also highlighted the importance of forums and national committees to plan strategies, support policies and make decisions on disaster risk reduction. They also reviewed the progress made by the government to implement the Sendai framework and other important related topics. The workshop aims to promote the efforts of the State of Qatar to prepare a report on disaster risk reduction and increase the capacities and skills of employees of concerned authorities in the country. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction which was adopted during the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in Sendai, Japan, in 2015, is a result of negotiations between entities from different countries around the world. The agreement aims to promote the capacities of states and communities in facing disasters for the extended period between 2015 and 2030. (QNA)
