Regions Could Contribute To Global Security

Jakarta, March 20 (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called for continued development of mutual confidence among regions to contribute to creating global security and stability. "Mutual confidence among regions must be consistently developed and strengthened," he said when opening the Jakarta International Defense Dialog at Jakarta Convention Center here on Wednesday. He said the strategy could contribute to the US-China relations, pose a question over India-Pakistan relations and become the main factor in the relations between China and Japan. "This may also become an important issue with regard to the North and South relations in the Korean Peninsula," he added. The Indonesian head of state said the important thing of the strategy was building a strong relations foundation slowly involving a continuous process. President Yudhoyono also emphasized the importance of building communication between decision makers at higher and lower levels with regard to relations between two countries or parties. "Some times a decision made by a decision maker at a lower level could cause a bigger impact than that made by a decision maker at a higher level," he said. With regard to mutual confidence building measure, President Yudhoyono took what the Southeast Asian countries have done so far as an example. He said countries in the region were once mired in conflicts but right now the region has become a stable region and has even set up a regional cooperation framework that continued to progress to contribute to other regions and globally.
