BANGKOK, June 29 (TNA) - The Labour Ministry will conclude its registration of migrant workers tomorrow and its officials will arrest and fine illegal migrant workers afterwards. Labour Minister Adul Sangsingkeo confirmed that the registration at the ministry’s one-stop service centers would end on June 30. Their services had started on April 23. He said the ministry had expected to register 348,022 migrant workers during the period and the centers already documented 333,724 workers, 95.89% of the targeted number. They consist of 148,420 Cambodians, 1,728 Lao workers, and 2,604 Myanmar workers. Pol Gen Adul stressed that from July 1 officials of his ministry’s Employment Department would arrest illegal migrant workers who would be fined 5,000-50,000 baht, deported and blacklisted from work in Thailand for two years. Their employers would be fined 10,000-100,000 baht per worker. If they repeated the wrong doing, they will be prohibited from employing a migrant worker for three years and be liable to a jail term of up to one year and/or a fine of 50,000-200,000 baht the minister said.
