Reopening of Suvarnabhumi Airport's eastern runway postponed to 6pm

BANGKOK, September 11 (TNA) - Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has postponed the reopening of the eastern runway at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport from noon to 6pm on September 11. AOT announced on Wednesday morning that heavy downpours overnight have softened soil beside the runway and obstructed the deployment of machines and instruments to remove a passenger plane of Thai Airways International (THAI) which skidded off the runway last Sunday night. According to the public announcement, AOT is to, thus, postpone the reopening of the closed 2,000-meter-long section of the eastern runway at the Suvarnabhumi Airport, located adjacent to the plane, to 6pm. Flight services have, meanwhile, continued at the Suvarnabhumi Airport though they have been delayed to a certain extent. From 7pm on September 10 to 7am on September 11, 112 landing planes were delayed for about 25 minutes each and 207 departing planes were postponed for about 30 minutes each, resulting from heavy downpours and the partial runway closure.
