Rescue Teams Racing Against Clock In Quake-stricken Bushehr

Tehran, April 10, IRNA – Head of Natural Disaster Headquarters and medical care Mohammad Taghi Talebian said on Tuesday that rescue and medical teams are racing against the clock at the quake hit areas of Bushehr province. Speaking to IRNA, he said following the strong quake rescue teams in Fars and Khuzestan provinces are heading for the trouble spots to help rescue operations underway by local relief workers. One hundred ambulances with medical teams are to be dispatched to the province from Tehran, he said. The early estimate indicates that the cities of Khormouj, Dayer and Kangan in Bushehr province have been destroyed by 6.1 Richter scale quake on Tuesday. The epicenter of the earthquake has been the city of Kaki, 60 miles from Bushehr. According to seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake occurred at 16:22 hours local time (1252 GMT). The quake was epicenter in an area located at 28.48 degrees latitude and 51.58 degrees longitude.
