RI Hopes Mass Rally In Bangkok To Run Peacefully

Jakarta, Dec 9 (Antara) - Indonesia hopes mass rally in Bangkok to be held on Monday (Dec 9) will run peacefully without causing any casualties, Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand Lutfi Rauf said here on Monday. "We also hope the issue causing the rally will be addressed peacefully and situation in Bangkok will return to normal as soon as possible," he said. Lutfi called on all Indonesians residing in Thailand to be aware of the situation near their neighborhood and report to the Indonesian Embassy in case of emergency. The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok has issued a statement earlier asking for its citizens living in Thailand to avoid locations of mass rally. Indonesians are also requested to maintain contact with the embassy. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Monday she would dissolve parliament and hold an election "as soon as possible" following a wave of anti-government protests in Bangkok. "At this stage, when there are many people opposed to the government from many groups, the best way is to give back the power to the Thai people and hold an election. So the Thai people will decide," Yingluck said in a televised address as thousands of protesters resumed demonstrations across Bangkok.
