RI, Thailand To Cooperate In Exchange Of Information

Jakarta, Oct 1 (Antara) - The Indonesian Central Information Commission (KIP) and the Official Information Commission of Thailand (OIC) will cooperate in information exchange to face the ASEAN Economic Community 2015 (AEC 2015), noted KIP Deputy Chairman John Fresly. "We plan to cooperate with the OIC of Thailand to face AEC 2015 that requires clear regulation in obtaining information from other countries," John stated here on Wednesday. He remarked that the cooperation is necessary in order to obtain important information, particularly in the economic sector, but at the same time protecting important data of each country. Besides Thailand, the KIP will also cooperate with other ASEAN countries such as the Philippines, which will pass the free information law this year, he noted. "We have planned to cooperate with the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore, but first we will do it with Thailand, which has had that kind of law," John noted. Related to national security in the cooperation between Indonesian and Thailand, John revealed that the KIP will evaluate the type of protection system that will be applied. "We will review it from the national security side because this cooperation will enable them to know information about Indonesia," he stated. In addition, he noted that the government should actively persuade other ASEAN countries to apply the freedom of public information law and encourage the ASEAN to implement clear rules for sharing free information.
