RID to supply more water during Songkran

BANGKOK, April 7 (TNA) - The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) will supply more water during the upcoming Songkran festival,Thailand’s traditional New Year. Deputy director-general of RID Taweesask Tanadechopol said his agency will release water from water sources, including reservoirs nationwide to ensure that the celebrants would have sufficient water during the annual water-splashing festival. In the North, the RID will discharge more water a dam into the Ping River. More water will be released from a dyke into the old city moat in the Chiang Mai municipality for celebrants to use in the water play. Chiang Mai is one of the most popular destinations in the country among locals and foreigners to celebrate the festival. Most of the water to be discharged from the reservoir nationwide is parts of the water management plan to supply water in the dry season and it will not affect the use of water in other activities, however, people are asked to use proper amount of water wisely.
