Roadshow on Thai government's mega projects organised

BANGKOK, October 11 (TNA) The government on Friday organised a roadshow on its planned mega infrastructure development projects, totally worth 2.2 trillion baht, in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, or Korat, in the Northeast, Thailand’s second largest city by population. Presiding over the opening of the roadshow, Thai Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt said he believes that the massive investment by the government will help distribute economic growth to all Thai regions eventually, especially in the Northeast in which Nakhon Ratchasima is considered the gateway to other connected areas, including those in neighboring Indochinese countries. Chadchart insisted that people will see the anticipated potential of Nakhon Ratchasima, even as the "second Bangkok", after the completion of the mega projects over the next seven years. According to the transport minister, significant projects planned to be developed in the Thai Northeast during the seven-year period include high-speed train linking Bangkok with Nakhon Ratchasima, dual rail track service and a 196-kilometre-long motorway linking Bang Pa-In District in the central Ayutthaya Province with Saraburi and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces. Besides, the transport minister acknowledged, the current two traffic lanes in northeastern Thai areas will be widened to four lanes, aimed at upgrading the country’s highway network, and new roads will also be constructed in the region.
