Rohingya migrants moved from Thai South to East

BANGKOK, February 5 (TNA) - Thai officials have moved 100 illegal Rohingya migrants, out of the total of nearly 1,000, from Songkhla province in the South to a temporary shelter in the northeastern Ubon Ratchatani province. Ubon Ratchatani's customs office chief Police Colonel Suthep Kopaiboonkit told journalists that his office has received the 100 illegal Rohingya Muslim ethnics since Monday night for a temporary stay in his province to ease congestion at the Padang Besar Customs Office in Songkhla. The provincial customs chief said that, of the total 100 relocated Rohingya immigrants, there is only one child, aged 14, while the rest are males, aged 18-30, who are all single. Physicians and nurses from nearby areas have, meanwhile, examined the health of the illegal Rohingya migrants from neighbouring Myanmar, while officials of other agencies have provided them with appropriate assistance on other matters. Apart from the 100 Rohingya people relocated to Ubon Ratchatani, two other groups of Rohingya migrants, 100 each, have also been moved from the Thai South to Nong Kai and Mukdahan Provinces in the Thai South to further relieve overcrowding temporary shelters in Songkhla.
