ROTA Launches Adult Arabic Literacy Programme

Doha, October 13 (QNA) - Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) Monday announced its Adult Arabic Literacy Programme (RAAL) in collaboration with Academic Bridge and Awsaj Academy. The Qatar Petroleum-sponsored programme aims to educate workers from diverse language and cultural backgrounds in the fundamental skills of modern standard Arabic, ROTA said. ROTA's Youth Engagement programme also gives young people in Qatar an opportunity to grow their skills as community leaders and advocates. This week, more than eight university students from Academic Bridge started a six-week programme to become Literacy Trainers for RAAL. After completing the course, the trainers will teach workers at their respective universities and organizations, ROTA said. ROTA Executive Director Essa Al Mannai said, "RAAL aims to build bridges between cultures, boost workers' language skills, and empower volunteers to be leaders in their communities." Building on the success of ROTA's Adult English Literacy (RAEL) Program, RAAL is an expansion of the initiative, he said. "We are looking for new opportunities to facilitate cross-cultural understanding." QP Public Relations and Communications Manager Abdulrahman Abdulla Al Obaidly said, "We are pleased to note ROTA's Adult Literacy Programme has now been expanded to enable workers to learn Arabic language. We wish participants and trainers success as they dedicate their time and efforts for this laudable initiative." The organisers will hold an event to showcase and celebrate the achievements of trainers and learners in January, ROTA said. (QNA)
