Rouhani discusses regional issues with Iraq's Islamic Supreme Council chief

Baghdad, March 12, IRNA – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and President of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim discussed mutual relations and regional issues in Baghdad on Tuesday. President Rouhani has already had meetings with several other Iraqi officials including President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi. Accompanied by a politico-economic delegation, Iran's president arrived in Baghdad on Monday. His visit to Iraq is taking place upon the official invitation of Iraqi president Salih and prime minister. During his three-day visit to Iraq, President Rouhani is to confer with the senior Iraqi cleric, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani. Exploring avenues for promoting bilateral relations in the political, economic and cultural fields are among the main objectives of the Iranian president’s official visit to Iraq. Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif travelled to Iraq on Saturday to do the necessary arrangements for President Rouhani’s official visit to the neighboring state.
