Rubber planters to submit demands to govt

BANGKOK, Jan 10 (TNA) - Rubber growers plan to submit a four-point demand to the government and insisted that planters will definitely meet this Tuesday. Prathob Sooksanarn, president of Southern Rubber Growers Network, accompanied by two senior representatives jointly told a press conference that rubber planters would meet this Tuesday at the Rubber Authority of Thailand office in the southern province of Trang. They would call on the government to urgently appoint board members of the Rubber Authority of Thailand and to accelerate on a payment of government subsidy at 1,500 baht per rai. They said the government has paid subsidy to about 2,000 growers only while it has not yet paid to the rest of 90 per cent of growers. Rubber growers continued to suffer from continued falling prices. Mr. Prathob said the upcoming meeting of rubber growers this Tuesday would be final and they would escalate their demands if the government ignored them.(TNA)
