Runoff hit southern province of Trang

TRANG, Aug 14 (TNA) – A rainstorm felled a big tree on a road and sent runoff to villages in the southern province of Trang, causing local residents to hurriedly save their belongings late at night. The uprooted 17-meter-tall tamarind tree blocked a local road to Trang airport in Muang Trang district. No one was hurt. Travelers had to take a detour to catch their flights at the provincial airport last night. Local officials spent about two hours to clear the road. The heavy downpour lasted more than two hours and caused flash floods in several villages of Khuan Pring sub-district in Muang Trang district. Floodwater was 10-60 centimeters deep. About 10 houses were isolated. At about 10pm Sunday, runoff caused flooding of 10-30cm deep on Phetchakasem Highway in parts of Na Yong district. More than 100 houses were affected and local residents had to move their belongings to higher ground. Four districts of Trang were flooded, namely Huai Yot, Palian, Muang Trang and Na Yong. About 500 families were in trouble as assistance had not reached them.(TNA)
