Russia and ASEAN will discuss prospects of expanding economic cooperation at summit in Sochi - Lavrov

MOSCOW, January 26. /TASS/. Implementation of the Russian president’s initiative on launching consultations between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member countries on the possibility of forming an economic partnership opens new prospects for cooperation with the Asia Pacific countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told an annual press conference on Tuesday. "These issues will be on the agenda at the upcoming Russia-ASEAN summit in Sochi in May which will be devoted to the 20th anniversary of our relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations," Lavrov said. SCO comprises Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. ASEAN unites 10 Southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. Read more
