Russia calls to focus of efforts to put end to conflict in Syria

UNITED NATIONS, September 29. /TASS/. Russia calls on the United States and its allies to drop provocative rhetoric and concentrate efforts to swiftly stop the conflict in Syria, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Yevgeny Zagainov said on Wednesday at a United Nations Security Council meeting dedicated to protection of civilians in armed conflicts. "On our part, we strongly call to drop provocative rhetoric and hurl all effort to swiftly stop the conflict in Syria. A good basis has been prepared for that, including in the context of the Russian-U.S, cooperation," he said. Delegations of the United States, Great Britain and other countries sought to put all the blame for the death of civilians and attacks on medical personnel in Syria on Damascus and Moscow. Zagainov dismissed these accusations saying that in the Syrian conflict "everything pales beside the striving to topple the government and redraw the regional geopolitical map at any cost." "There was a possibility not to commence this conflict, there were chances to stop it and reach political settlement which has no alternative. But instead of efforts towards collective solution, representatives of states directly responsible for instigating the war in Syria prefer to indulge in anti-Russian allegations at the Security Council and at other venues," the Russian diplomat said. According to Zagainov, what is seen in the information space now "is a wave of public speculations on people’s sufferings in propaganda purposes and to divert attention from own disastrous policy." "Notably, injected data are often built on unscrupulous reports from areas controlled by militants who are directly interested in discrediting the Syrian government and Russia," he said, adding that "work with the so-called witnesses is often conducted in countries neighboring Syria."
