Russia to check Ankara’s arguments about violation of Turkey’s airspace by Russian aircraft - Peskov

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Russia will verify the information on the alleged violations of Turkey’s airspace by a Russian fighter aircraft, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. "As for this incident, our ambassador was indeed summoned to the [Turkish] Foreign Ministry, a note was handed over [to him]," he said. "It mentions certain facts, which will be checked." The Kremlin official noted though that "the relations between Russia and Turkey were multi-faceted and had a solid foundation." The Turkish Foreign Ministry earlier said that the Russian fighter jet had violated Turkey’s airspace. "On October 3 at 12:08 (the time coincides with Moscow Time) a Russian aircraft violated our airspace near the town of Yayladagi (Hatay province). After two F-16 aircraft of the Turkish air force, which were patrolling the region, performed an interceptive action, the Russian plane left the Turkish airspace towards Syria," the ministry’s statement said. "Russia’s Ambassador in Ankara who was summoned to the Foreign Ministry was lodged strong protest by the deputy adviser to the minister," the ministry said. Read more
