Russia-China anti-terrorism agreement has no territorial restrictions - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. The anti-terrorism agreement between Russia and China has no territorial restrictions, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, said on Thursday. "The privileged strategic partnership with China is one of Russia’s foreign policy priorities," he said speaking at a meeting of Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) International Affairs Committee. According to Ryabkov, against the backdrop of advanced Russian-Chinese partnership to combat terrorism "the ratification of an agreement with China on cooperation in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism" is becoming increasingly more relevant. "The practical implementation of this document will provide additional legal framework and opportunities for stepping up bilateral cooperation," he noted. "The agreement is bilateral, it forms the basis for cooperation between relevant agencies," Ryabkov said. "The agreement contains no territorial restrictions. We are fighting against terrorism and extremism as the manifestations of a hostile ideology. The sources of these threats are largely located outside our two countries." The agreement signed in Beijing on September 27, 2010, is aimed at developing bilateral cooperation in countering terrorism, separatism and extremism and contains provisions concerning joint steps to identify and prevent actions related to plotting and carrying out terrorist attacks, according to the accompanying documents. On September 28, 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted this document to the State Duma for ratification. Read more
